Hungary decides to regulate tech giants

In the spring of 2021, the Ministry of Justice will submit a bill to the Hungarian Parliament on the regulation of the operation of large technology companies in Hungary, Minister of Justice Judit Varga announced on Facebook in January 2021. According to the Minister, anyone can now be arbitrarily disconnected from the online space: bakers, hairdressers, retirees, teachers, small and large companies, as well as state leaders can also be disconnected, without a formal, transparent and fair procedure after which remedy is not possible.

Minister of Justice explained that Hungary is still working on the preparation of a similar EU regulation with the Member States, however, the events of the recent period have shown that “we must act faster to protect people”.

The new regulation would ensure the lawful, transparent and controllable operation of tech giants, in the same way as in case of any other big corporations as well as small enterprises.
